The Philadelphia Fight knuckled their way to an undefeated three-game home stand on a perfect day in front of a great home crowd. With a final 14-12 score, Joel Weeks and Jared Frymoyer were the two try scorers of the game with a padding of six points from two conversions and a penalty kick from Mike “Squirrel” Timpano.

Named man of the match, Timpano delivered the game winning penalty kick to seal the victory streak for the Fight. After the kick he said, “It was unreal — I just couldn’t believe it. (There are) not many words to express how I feel.”

Timpano, however, was able to express his love for his teammates ... and the opposing team. Ironically for him, he used to play for the Jackonsonville Axemen and fittingly led his team to glory after a draining 80 minutes at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium.

“It was the closest game you’ll see all season,” said Timpano.

While brute force played its role, Captain Ryan Douglas credited his team with ball security.

“I thought we played most of the game down in their half — which is what our game plan was. We didn’t make too many mistakes in our own half,” said Douglas. Fighting did erupt and penalty calls were frequent. “We had a couple of penalties against us, which is the only time they scored tries — off the back of our mistakes,” said Douglas.

The Fight anticipated the struggle, but is coasting off their success for the time being. “We knew we were in a dog fight. These guys are good,” winger Jared Frymoyer said, “we got a good shot of getting our first title.”
