US ASSOCIATION OF RUGBY LEAGUE OFFICIAL

Crunch time for Rebellion

The Rhode Island Rebellion have much to celebrate in their inaugural year but a trip to the playoffs will put them in the history books as the only newly formed team to achieve a finals berth in the first year of the USARL.

Standing in their way are last year’s finalists (2008 Champions) the New Haven Warriors who are currently sitting in fourth position and looking at possible elimination for the first time in 5 years.   The Warriors who suffered a heartbreaking defeating to the Fight last weekend, have no intentions of letting their new neighborly rivals celebrate just yet.

“The round six defeat to the Fight on Warriors soil in the final 2 minutes was certainly hard for the Warriors to accept, but then again that's a great sign of the quality level of rugby league in this newly formed league,” said Warriors CEO Adam Hamon.

For the Rebellion, it has been a see-saw introduction to the USARL.   “Everything we have worked for all season comes down to this one game. If we win, we put ourselves in a very favorable position to make the playoffs. If we lose, we eliminate ourselves from contention,” said Anthony Nardolillo co-owner of RIR.

He continued, “We played the Warriors earlier this season and lost a close match 36-28 which was one of our first three losses in a row.   Since then the boys have developed such a camaraderie and willingness to sacrifice our bodies for one another. The Warriors are a strong club, but they are about to see a very different Rebellion team this weekend.”

The game is Saturday Night (July 23) at Classical High School, Rhode Island with kick-off scheduled for 8pm.
