Countdown to trans-atlantic challenge underway

Philadelphia Fight will this week become the first ever American club rugby league side to tour the UK and Wigan Riversiders will be the first British team to play an American club side on home soil.

The game is to be played at Robin Park Arena, Wigan at 7:30 on Thursday 21 April and has generated much excitement in the town.

The game sees Swinton coach Steve McCormack (who will act as Philadelphia’s guest coach for the duration of their stay) take on childhood friend in Wigan Riversiders player-coach Anthony Murray.

The Fight also feature several players who have converted from American Football to Rugby League, one such player being 250lbDan Gabrielli who represented his divisional conference in the positions of both “linebacker” and “longsnapper.”

Hopefully he has mastered the art of passing backwards by now, claiming the momentum rule might be a bit much even for Stevo.

Tickets will be available on the door priced £4 adults, £2 children or a family ticket (two adults and two children) for £10, whilst the doors will open at 6.30pm.

The pre-match entertainment will feature the Wigan Warriors Cheerleaders, Max the Mascot and national anthems performed by local singers for both teams.
