Fight, Axemen and 13s undefeated

Axemen vs. D.C. Slayers The Axemen continued on their winning way with an awesome display in front of another crowded house in Jacksonville. With a sizeable opposition that was sure to get axefans fired up, the Slayers big men never got into the game as the Axemen piled on 18 unanswered points in the first quarter. By the end of the first half they had scored three more tries creating an insurmountable lead that would see them through to the final whistle. Big games from Taylor Alley, Dylan Beaver, Bryan Beedle and Max Schwartz who all scored along with Matt Kealy who was steady with conversions. Final Score: Jacksonville Axemen 48 defeated D.C. Boston 13s vs Oneida FC The Boston 13s made it 3 from 3 with a win over Oneida FC in their home opener at MIT Steinbrenner Stadium. Import Dustin Cooper opened the scoring early on and the 13s never really looked back from there, racing into a 36-0 half time lead. Despite the scoreline, Oneida went close to the line on a number of occasions but poor handling near the try line let them down. For the 13s, Cooper and Jesse Pearce were impressive in the halves and the scoring was spread throughout as a total of nine different players notched up points. Oneida snared a late consolation try when Mick Wilson scored from close range. Man of the match for the 13s was prop Shane Begin who led from the front all day, for Oneida the honor went to Marcos Flegmann who was strong in the centers. Final Score: Boston Thirteens 64 defeated Oneida FC 6

New Haven Warriors vs Rhode Island Rebellion The Rebellion went to New Haven looking for their first win of the season after a disappointing start from what seemed to be a promising pre-season campaign. The Rebellion started strong and were on rapid fire scoring 6 tries in the first half. (Matt Tannozzini, Derek Trehan, Jon St. John, Shain Singleton, David French). In the second half New Haven stepped up their offensive game with 2 tries but still unable to fend off the Rebellion's clicking offense with 7 tries in the second 40 minutes. (Derek Trehan 3, Chad Warnock 2, John St. John 1, Jose Montanez 1). Final Score: Rhode Island Rebellion 78 defeated New Haven Warriors 8

Philadelphia Fight vs. Baltimore Blues The Philadelphia Fight showed it's respect to their loyal cheer squad, the Vixens, their family & fans who made the trip to Wilmington by acknowledging them with resounding applause after another 14 try feast over the courageous Baltimore Blues on Saturday June 16. A haul of 14 tries & 13 goals, excited those in attendance on a perfect day for Rugby League at the Alapocas Run State Park. The Fight put on 22 unanswered points in the 1st quarter, with the Blues getting over for their first, & only converted try in the 2nd quarter, for the half-time score to read Fight 40, Blues 6.

Demanding a better performance from his troops after the first 2 quarters, Valley Forge Casino MVP & Captain, Johnny Weber, received a much better result from them in the final 2 quarters with a more disciplined & organized approach to their game by putting on an additional 42 points.

Prop, Kane Fuller led the way up the center, continuously causing havoc on the Blues defense, getting over the line again this week for a try. Winger, Jared Frymoyer, again showed excellent form being the highest try scorer with 4 to his credit. Second-rower, Larry Madden, was closer to the action this week, providing a bigger contribution & posted 2 tries from an excellent game. Also posting 2 tries were in-form fullback, Patrick Quirk & Centre, John Evangelista. Quirk continues to improve as he overcomes early-season injuries.
