USARL Game Development Fund Launches with Strong First-Year Impact

The United States Association of Rugby League (USARL) has announced the first recipients of its newly launched Game Development Fund, with support awarded to 10 programs nationwide. More than half of the funding has been directed toward programs focused on youth and women’s participation, highlighting a clear commitment to building the game’s foundation and future.
Applications were received from clubs nationwide, with the selected programs spanning across multiple regions, reflecting the nationwide interest and engagement and commitment in growing the sport.
USARL Chair Matt Goschnick said:
"This initiative would not have been possible without the invaluable support of such a collaborative partner, as the Sydney Roosters. Their unwavering commitment to the growth of rugby league in the United States, combined with their passion for growing the game in the US, has played a pivotal role in enabling the Board to introduce key programs and initiatives to our clubs such as the Game Development Fund, which is designed to equip clubs with resources to establish and expand community- based programs that contribute to the long term growth of the sport.
Partnerships of this nature—and others, such as the recently announced official ball agreement with the MCG Group—provide targeted, meaningful support to clubs, particularly in areas where assistance is most needed. We are grateful for these contributions, which play a vital role in strengthening the grassroots foundation of rugby league across the country. We hope to add additional partners in the near future that can further help us expand and launch new initiatives to support the growth and development of the game in the US."
Sydney Roosters CEO Joe Kelly expressed his support for the initiative, stating:
"It’s encouraging to see interest from clubs in all regions seeking financial support for programs that will evolve their club and ultimately grow the presence and participation of Rugby League at a grassroots level. It’s a great step forward for the sport in the U.S and we look forward to seeing these initiatives come to life and have a positive impact on the game nationwide. The Sydney Roosters are proud to be able to support these initiatives and we encourage clubs, schools, and community organizations to make further applications when future funding rounds open."
The Game Development Fund is part of USARL’s long-term strategy to strengthen club operations, expand access to the sport, and support locally driven growth. Additional funding rounds will be announced later this year as we continue working to strengthen the foundation of rugby league in the United States and are continuing to explore further partnerships and investment opportunities to help facilitate continued development of rugby league in the U.S. The Game Development Fund is fully funded by the Sydney Roosters NRL Club as part of their partnership with the USARL.
