Woolnough only sees upside in Braveheart showdown in Vegas

On Friday, 27 February, the USA Hawks men’s team will take on the Scottish Bravehearts in a highly anticipated encounter in Las Vegas. The Bravehearts, reigning European champions as recently as 2017, come into the match with a strong pedigree. However, new head coach Adam Woolnough believes his side is primed for an upset, with a passionate and motivated squad ready to make their mark.

“We have a team that is absolutely driven to play for the Stars and Stripes. These players are incredibly motivated and eager to showcase their skills,” said Woolnough, confident that his team will deliver on match day.

The USA will introduce three or four new caps to the squad, as Woolnough begins to put his stamp on the program. “These players have been pushing for a spot, and this is their chance to step up,” he added.

The Hawks’ biggest strength lies in their outside backs, known for their speed and power. Woolnough is excited to see them exploit the edges and play an attacking, high-tempo game. “Our outside backs have the X-factor. Expect to see a lot of running, and we’ll look to utilize their pace and aggression,” said Woolnough.

While the team is strong domestically, the distance between players means a lot of responsibility falls on them to stay in top shape. But Woolnough has confidence in the group’s dedication. “We have some incredible athletes. When you’ve got players who can run 100m in 10 seconds, you’ve got a lot to work with.”

As for Scotland, Woolnough anticipates a competitive game, with both teams hungry to prove themselves. “It will be a close contest. The Scots are deep into their pre-season, and we’re eager to get match practice under our belts. We see plenty of potential in our group,” he said.
