The Washington D.C. Slayers otherwise known as “The Slayers” were founded in 2003 By USA Tomahawk Martin O’Donoghue. The Washington D.C. Slayers remained in the American National Rugby League (AMNRL) for eleven years until realigning the team as a founding member with the USA Rugby League (USARL). In 2011, the DC competed in the USA Rugby League during the 2011 inaugural season.
Since The Slayers formation in 2003 the sport of Rugby League has been stirring in the Washington, Virginia, Maryland area bringing more interest to the team and to sport as a whole. The Slayers accomplishments as a team over the years have attracted players from other countries such as Australia, England, Scotland, Fiji, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, and Samoa. Other Facts About the Team:
- D.C. Slayers have hosted The New Zealand Police Rugby League team in 2006, in 2008, and 2011.
- Prior to the 2012 season, the Slayers hosted the British Royal Marines Rugby League Club and took the first US Rugby League squad to Jamaica to take on the Hurricanes Rugby League team.
- The Slayers have produced 4 players to the USA Tomahawks; Martin O’Donoghue, Ric Dortone, David Faimanifo, Juan Carlos “JC” Rocha.
- The Slayers have produced 2 players to the USA Pioneers; Asa Jearld, Dylan Beaver.
- The Slayers have produced 2 players to the Player Pool for USA Hawks National Team; Asa Jearld, Tyree Reeves
