The Story of the Sacramento Immortals

On Friday morning (June 25th, 2021) The Sacramento Immortals lead by Coach Skipper Nuilevu will take off down Highway 5 from Sacramento to Los Angeles.

The team will be captained by experienced center Samuela Waqa with Andre Whaley assisting as Vice-Captain.

Being two days out from the season opener, this article will visit their origin story and journey to get to where they are today.

Founded in 2019 the Sacramento Immortals have remained hungry throughout the pandemic to establish a successful Rugby League team.

In 2019 when the historic clash between San Francisco and Los Angeles was set up there was a group of players in Sacramento who asked “Hey what about us? We want a team”. From there it was born.

The original name was “Sacramento Diehards” which was pushed aside quickly and replaced by “Sacramento Immortal” which today has evolved to “Sacramento Immortals”

In 2020, the Immortals were leading the way to get back playing Rugby League. They took on the East Palo Alto Razorbacks in a trial match and in an exhibition match. Which they managed to take the win on both occasions.

The side was originally comprised of around 50 players which has over time broken into two teams. Sacramento Young Tigers are the new side born out of the Immortals. The battle of Sacramento will take place on July 17th at Danny Nunn Park. The Immortals currently hold the upper hand in their one meeting in March.
