Philadelphia ready to ‘Fight’ to reign supreme again in 2014

Last year’s Championship winners, the Philadelphia Fight returned to this year’s competition having to justify favouritism for the 2014 season and from a first glance, they seem to be doing exactly that.

Article By Danny Roberts:

The Fight have won the title twice in the past 3 years and the core of the team has had the benefit of having played together for the past 5 to 6 years.

Having gone through seasons in which they haven’t won a game the side is now firmly established as a power in the league and having won the recent USARL 9s tournament, the Philadelphia Fight are the team that have set the standard so far this year. Chairman and Head Coach of the Fight, Peter Illfield aims to maintain the environment that has led them to success by including players and staff members in the decision making process at the club whilst helping to improve team harmony so that nothing will distract the reigning champions from performing when it matters on the field. The recent dismantling of the AMNRL has led to an improvement in the quality of players available to

USARL teams, alongside this, the Fight have managed to secure the services of two RLWC2013 USA players in the form of center, Michael Garvey and utility-back, Gabriel Farley. Well known USA Tomahawk representative, Andrew ‘Chunk’ Kneisly should add further quality to the side as he joins up with the Tomahawks representatives already at the

Fight, Jared Frymoyer and Larry Madden. Illfield is confident that his side are ready for the 2014 season and has identified 4 players to look out for as having improved in the offseason. These players are James Coleman (prop), John Lyons (center), Matty Scher (wing/center) and Thomas Madden (wing).

The Fight must include every game in which they play in this year as ‘key’ games if they are to emulate the performances that they registered last year on their way to winning the National Championship game. Illfield said: “You can never be sure when the tide may run against you for a loss so you must endeavour to make every ‘post’ a winner.”

He is really looking forward to his side take on the Brooklyn Kings after they have already shown a leading edge since their establishment and have built a strong roster that includes several talented players from the dismantled AMNRL. However, Illfield is solely focused on taking his side back to the Championship game this year, and aims to do so by engaging the talented players that will be pulling on the Philadelphia Fight jersey. The side has created, and continues to nurture, an environment for players to gain knowledge, guide player improvement and produce a competitive sportsmanship. The side from Philly now have a target on their back and every team will be looking to get the better of them in their respective games, however the name says it all and in every game they play you can expect

Philadelphia to do exactly that… Fight.
