Fight deliver mighty blow to the Warriors

The Philadelphia Fight 'fought' it tough throughout and right up to the very last seconds of their match against the New Haven Warriors in Connecticut to achieve a club record 5 - 1 season and remain equal 2nd in the USARL standings.
Fight deliver mighty blow to the Warriors

It was the last play-of-the-day, a yard out from the Warriors try-line with Aussie half-back and best-on-ground for the Fight, Joel Weeks, looking to the right and setting himself for a hopeful match winning 1 point field-goal to add to his already 16 points for the day, when second-row Richard "Pond" Casey III deceived both Weeks and the Warriors to barge over to the left from dummy-half to break the 22-22 deadlock with a 4 point try. Weeks added the extras to seal it for a Fight 28 - Warriors 22 win.

Winger Jared Frymoyer opened proceedings for the Fight with a try in the 1st quarter, Weeks converted and at the first break it was Fight 6, Warriors 6. The Warriors size and strength made ground in the 2nd quarter for 2 converted try's but couldn't stop the determination from the Fight's diminutive winger Pat Kelly getting over in the corner just before half-time to keep the Fight in the match with a 10-18 score line.

The 3rd quarter was the making of the Fight and the best of the match with prop and Captain Matt Webster leading the way and setting the platform for the now common gutsy performances from lock Kevin Wiggins and hooker Dave Wilmore. New comer to the Fight, Jeff Bascelli, along with his brother Joe and 'Pond' Casey provided some determined defense, and Joel Weeks worked constantly to get over for 2 tries which he converted for a 22-18 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Warriors crossed the Fight's try-line to even the score in the final quarter which left both sides struggling to find a game breaker until the deceptive Pond found himself at dummy-half.

Another courageous effort was displayed by an already depleted Fight squad, with Mike Kelly retiring with a split eyebrow, Daniel Gabrielli's knee not holding up and Aussie fullback Sean Staunton struggled to get into top gear with foot blisters.
