Round 6 wrapup - Fight knockout Warriors

Philadelphia FightWarriors vs Fight
Traveling light and missing 10 players through injuries, the Philadelphia Fight pulled off a remarkable victory against last years finalist’s the New Have Warriors by scoring in the last minute of regulation play to win the game.   The game was a bruising encounter with plenty of big hits as both teams tried to dominate the middle of the field.  With the lead changing hands a number of times, the Warriors season may have come down to a missed conversion right in front of the posts that would have given them a 2 point lead with minutes on the clock.  Instead the tied score forced another round with the Fight delivering a knockout punch in the corner right on full time.  Fight man of the match was halfback Joel Weeks that worked tirelessly throughout the day.

Jacksonville AxemenAxemen vs Rebellion
The Jacksonville Axemen have kept their home win streak alive with a 30 to 4 defeat of the Rhode Island Rebellion. The game marks 3 years since the Axemen suffered a defeat in regular season or playoff games at home.  The win has the Axemen sitting in second place behind the undefeated DC Slayers, who they will face in Washington DC this coming weekend.   As for the Rebellion, their season hangs in the balance and will need a big win against the Warriors in order to sneak into 4th spot and make the playoffs.

Washington D.C. SlayersTitans vs Slayers
Out of the playoff picture but playing for pride, the Titans were able to showcase the league version of rugby to many yesterday as they played host to an undefeated DC Slayers at the New Jersey 7s tournament. For the first time this year, the Titans took the field without the support of any import players. The young Titans came out in the first quarter looking like they were up for the challenge. DC was first to strike with a try from Asa Jearld. The Titans came right back with pressure from the defense which resulted in a DC mistake and an NJ try by Justin Driesse. It was then DC who scored off of a turnover to make the end of the first quarter a score of 16-4. The 2nd and 3rd quarters are where the Turnpike Titans fell apart. Between DC running through their offensive game plan effectively and many turnovers by the Titans, the game was busted wide open. In the fourth quarter, the Titans were able to step things back up. They eventually cut down the rate of DC's scoring. David Presby had a 50 meter try off of a quick scoot. A few minutes later, Patrick Delaney hit a gap with speed off of a pass from Joe Malanka and was able to run it in for another 50 meter try for the Titans. Joe Malanka converted both kicks in the 4th quarter and received man of the match for the Titans. Next week, the Titans take on the Fight for the second time this season as both teams participate in an ALS charity event.

With both teams well and truly out of finals contention, the Boston teams battled it our for bragging rights with the 13s coming up trumps with their first victory of the season. The game was decided in the second quarter when the Thirteens extended their two-point lead to 26-8. As in the first Battle of the Charles showdown, Oneida fought back from behind in the second half, but on this occasion the deficit was too large for them to surmount.
