Axemen & Boston through to Championship final

The Axemen were brutal in their treatment of underdog DC Slayers who's recent form suggested the game could shape up as a classic finals encounter. It wasn't to be as the Axemen were dominant from the kick-off easily wearing down the Slayers who looked nothing like the team that beat Boston only weeks earlier. A final score of 58-0 was a fair indication that the Axemen are now the hot favorites to hoist the USARL Championship Trophy in Boston two weeks from now.

Further north, last year's champs the Philadelphia Fight were desperate to regain control of a season that has been a roller coaster of twists and turns taking on the in-form Boston 13s. With the Fight sealing home field advantage, it was Boston's turn to travel and the team prepared well arriving a day early with plenty of time to rest before game day.

The game started as most expected with both teams battling it out and testing defense through solid sets of six plays. The end of the first quarter saw the 13s leading by a score of 12-8 and it was clear the locals had their work cut out for them. The second quarter saw the Fight with a huge advantage from a 13s player sent to the sin-bin for 10 minutes. Philadelphia were able to capitalize and regain the lead but they failed to punish the 13s with the extra man advantage and it wasn't long before Boston were back under the posts and in the drivers seat were two quick tries. Down 22-14 and with their season on the line, the Fight started the second half with an attacking raid on the 13s try line until a loose pass found it's way into the hands of the flying 13s player who raced 100 yards to score until the posts. The Fight never recovered and the 13s continued to pile on the points until the final whistle and scoreline of 58-18 put the 13s into their first ever Championship Final.
