Axemen Looking to Redeem Themselves in Home Opener

It was another tough day at the office for the Jacksonville Axemen, going down to the Atlanta Rhinos 42-26 in Atlanta last Saturday.

However, coach Wayne Forbes is positive the tides will turn and the Axemen will soon be back in the winners circle where they belong.

“I don’t doubt the players intentions or commitment, no one goes out there to lose a game of footy.” Forbes said.

“The players just haven’t learned the basic fundamentals of rugby league yet. And that’s why I have traveled halfway across the world. To teach them that and more.”

The loss to Atlanta will go down in the history book as the first time the Axemen have been beaten by the Rhinos. It is also the first time the Axemen have lost two consecutive domestic games.

Forbes said “This is definitely not the legacy I want to leave behind. However, there is a steep learning curve for the guys and once the light bulbs start to go off, we will be a force to be reckoned with.”

“With a 2015 roster of 24 players only 6 have played rugby league before. The guys are keen to learn, so that’s half the battle won. We just ask that our fans and sponsors are patient and come out to our first home game this weekend to help the team make a statement!”

The Axemen take on Tampa Mayhem this Saturday the 20th June in their first home appearance. Kick off is at 5:30pm, gates open at 4:30. As always, full concessions, $2 beer and Axemen merchandise will be available as well as the Axe Maiden cheerleaders to entertain the fans. We hope to see you all out there and support the team as we fight for our first win of the season!
