Mayhem stage comeback only to fall short

In a game that was the opposite from last weekend, that saw the Central Florida Warriors score 3 tries within the opening 10 minutes of the game, it was the Mayhem who showed true grit to claw back.

It took the Mayhem 17 minutes to get on the board, but once they did it was nothing short of focus that saw them back in contention and by half time they had leveled the score at 24 for each team.

Constant tackles by Josh Foley, clever play by Daniel Payne, and some big hits ups by Patrick Reive had Charlie Hutchings converting tries for himself, Josh Foley, Dan Slagle and Rieve, to have the Mayhem right back in contention. However the fight back come with a price, as Center, Billy Neilson, left the field with a dislocated shoulder.

After the break the Mayhem took the lead for the first time with Hutchings slotting a penalty after the Warriors went high on a tackle as the Tampa team threatened the line.

The Warriors then struck back twice with points of their own to take the lead out to 36 to 26 with 9 minutes left in the contest. Daniel Payne reacted to the urgency and found just enough space to cross under the posts to allow Hutchings to put the Mayhem within 4 points with 2 minute remaining. In a last ditch effort to get the win, the Mayhem team marched down the field quickly only to be denied. They did get one last crack by regathering the ball from a Warriors mistake, and Hutchings put in a short kick but was unable to regather.

Final Score Warriors 36 to Mayhem 32.

MVP honors went to Patrick Reive who was solid all game with Hit-ups and Tackles.

The Mayhem travel to Jacksonville this Saturday to face the other winless team in the Southern Conference, the Axemen.
