Rebellion take win in USARL Season Opener in Brooklyn

This weekend the Rebellion, a founding USARL club, opened up Season V with a win away against the Brooklyn Kings.

Brooklyn got out of the blocks quickly to skip out to a 10-nil lead early after couple dropped balls and penalties against the Rebellion handed Brooklyn field position.

The Rebellion soaked the pressure of 3 defensive sets in their own half before the got the ball back and scored their first try which was converted to take the score to 10-6. After some good ball possession the Rebellion scored twice more before halftime to go to the break 18-10 in front.

Brooklyn dominated the early part of the second half and the game which saw the Rebellion fall victim to mental errors and fatigue from the oppresive heat.

The Rebellion however called upon their experience and dug deep to get back to 28 all.  In the waning minutes of the match Brooklyn scored off of some lucky bounces and penalties against the Rebellion. Going up 34 to 28. However, the Rebellion were able to put up consecutive tries to pull off the win 40-34 over Brooklyn in New York.

GAME NOTES:

Junior Richards from the American Youth Rugby League Association’s Providence High School Competition, made his debut for the RIR, after having helped lead E-Cubed/Hope High School to a second Providence High School Championship.

Tyler Berry and Owen Dumas also made their debut for the RIR and participated in their first Rugby League game after helping upstart Johnson and Wales go on to win their collegiate division in their first season.
