The next challenge for North-Atlantic Conference top-of-the-table Fight is this Saturday, August 2 at 5.00pm when they take on the conference second place team Washington DC Slayers at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium. If successful, and for a place in the Championship Final, the Fight will then play the winner of the North-East Conference playoff between Rhode Island Rebellion and Boston 13s.

The Fight started quickly in the Virginia heat last Saturday posting 5 tries to 1 in the first 20-minute quarter. Fullback and second time Players Player, Roman Lowery, right-center Larry Madden, second-rowers Jackson Springer and Rhys Bowdich then lock Tristan Sylk all crossed for thrilling 4-pointers. Captain and halfback Rich Henson converted 5 of them with winger Jared Frymoyer converting one for a 30-6 lead at the break.

Frymoyer #9, returning from his successful game in Hawaii with the Tomahawks the previous week, landed another goal for a tally of 4 points. Henson went on with tries in each of the ensuing 3 quarters plus 2 more conversions to top-score with 26 points. He combined his points with some clever kicking in general play in which he gave others the opportunity to get over the line. His overall game provided “stop-in-their-tracks” tackling along with splitting the Eagles defense with great turns of speed. He was judged by Coach Illfield as best-on-field.

Another 4 tries in the 2nd quarter, again to Lowery and Henson, along with winger Thomas Madden and his brother Brian Madden made for a blistering game, with the Fight being as hot as the weather. Utility, Mike Kelly converted 2 of those tries, Brian Madden converted his own & Frymoyer potted his second. The NOVA Eagles made it over for another converted try in the second quarter but was no match for the mighty Fight, who took the score to the half-time break at 52-12.

Henson, Springer and Bowdich returned again with a try a piece in the 3rd quarter. Henson gets over for his 3rd try, along with center John Lyons and a ‘gimme’ to Joel Beasley in the 4th quarter for the final score to finish at 88-24 in favor of the Fight at full-time.

Join us at home in Conshohocken this Saturday at 5.00pm, E. 11th Ave and Harry St at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium.
