Rebellion hold off a surging Kings

This weekend saw the Rhode Island Rebellion kill the Kings playoff hopes in a game that came down to the wire.
Rebellion hold off a surging Kings

In an eerily similar match to Round 1 in Providence, The Rebellion dominated the first half, scoring almost at will, with the Kings only able to string a few sets together maintaining possession for only 10 or 12 minutes out of 40. At the end of the first the Rebellion were up 34 points to the Kings 6 off Tries from Chad Warnock, Mitch Winters, Morgan Ayshford, Mike Jones, Kane Gilles, and Andrew Stockhecker

At half-time, all including guest coach Geoff Tunks from the Coogee Wombats, thought the game was over, apparently no one told the Kings, CJ Courtlando. CJ led the Kings to rally back in an effort to replicate their performance in Round 1 in which the Kings rallied from a similar deficit to tie the Rebellion as time ran out. However this time despite the Rebellion only completing a handful of sets and turning the ball over multiple times, they were able to hold on to the lead, thanks to a last minute interception by 5/8th minute thirty left in the game. The Rebellion experienced the longest minute and Thirty seconds as the Kings were relentless and CJ Courtlando got tackled just shy of the goal line as the whistle blew for full time.

The Rebellion take on Boston this Saturday in Providence, looking to maintain a First place finish in the Northeast to allow for home field advantage in the Conference Playoff. Gates open at 6pm as the RI Development team takes on the Boston 13s U23 at 6pm, followed by the Rebellion vs. Boston 13s at

7:15. The game is proudly sponsored by Newport Storm Beer, Aruba Steve’s Bar, Ladder 133 Bar and Grill, the Luthmann Firm.
